Pythia

Pythia is a strategic card game inspired by games such as Balatro and Slay the Spire, where every hand you play is shaped by fate. There's just one catch—your deck is constantly evolving, whether you like it or not.

Each turn, you draw five playing cards and three tarot cards, but the tarot cards don’t just influence your current hand—they permanently alter the deck itself.

Some tarot effects follow clear rules, subtly shifting your strategy over time. Others unleash pure chaos, transforming cards in unexpected ways, forcing you to adapt on the fly. You can’t control the deck directly, but through careful planning (or sheer luck), you can navigate the randomness and stack the odds in your favor.

Every run is a test of adaptation and risk management—will you trust in fate, or try to outplay it?

Patch Notes  - Version 1.3

Performance Improvements

• Implemented UniTask for asynchronous processing
  • This allowed quick implementation of multithreading via UniTask.SwitchToThreadPool();
  • Mostly improves performance on low-end computers

Bug Fixes & Adjustments

• Hanged Man's animation now correctly adapts to game speed settings.
• Fixed an issue with The World + The Magician: The Magician was using the original hand size instead of accounting for The World’s +2 card draw.
• Fixed tooltip behavior: Tooltips on cards should no longer get stuck or fail to fade out properly.
• Added an FPS counter: Press F12 to toggle your framerate display.

Patch Notes  - Version 1.2

• The Star no longer soft locks the game when targeting Jacks, Kings, or Queens.  
• The Shattered Mirror now states: "x1 Mult for each unique suit in your hand."  
• The Twin Flames typo fixed.  
• The High Priestess now promotes the lowest card in your hand to match the highest card, instead of always becoming a King.  

AI Generative Disclosure:

This project utilized a locally executed large language model (LLM) called Qwen 2.5 14B Instruct, which was run on low-powered hardware to minimize environmental impact. The purpose of this was to clean up my codebase due to my habitually poor coding practices that go back decades. Also that doesn't mean I'm old! I just started young and stupid lol.

I featured creeped pretty hard and didn't have time to implement several features. Most importantly was an in-game combo list. Here's that list:
