Let's Talk Post Game jam Updates


Hi all,

This is my second game jam, but first of the two projects that I feel very compelled to fix up once the voting has completed. First let's talk about bugs:

Known Bugs

  • Periodically you'll be teleported way above ground upon being hit by an enemy
    • If you are in the middle of gathering when this happens, you're effectively soft locked and can't do anything else
  • You can technically soft-lock the game by running all the way off the map (a distance of about 1000m in any direction from the center of the game). This'll put you into an endless fall where the heads can't catch you, but you can't do anything either
  • Turrets that have an arrow loaded but don't fire it will lose the arrow. This is intended. What isn't intended is that the turret will still try and fire that arrow.

I'm not sure what causes players to teleport like that, and therefore am not sure I can remedy it. Never mind, I fixed it. I'll also be fixing up the other two bugs. 

Now then, what changes will I be making?

Changes To Be Made

  • A menu screen with graphical options will be added
    • Being able to disable ambient occlusion, depth of field, and lower the resolution of shadows will help a ton
  • A rebalancing of the core game play will happen
    • You'll start with 1 of each resource
    • Stones will now spawn at a rate of 2:1 compared to trees. It's currently 1:1, but the size of trees make them far more noticeable and easier to find.
    • Trees and Stones will yield a random amount of resources, with trees being able to yield a bit more on average due to less off them to gather
    • Round timings will be tweaked the allow more resource gathering time
    • Basic Turrets will now shoot at a range of 40m instead of 30m to help incentive using them
  • Turret upgrades will be implemented (a feature I had to cut from the game due to time constraints)
  • Maybe a few more turrets? We'll see :)
  • A timer to keep track of how long you survived
    • Maybe a global high score? I'll look into it.
  • Some cosmetic changes I've been thinking about. Keeping these a secret!

I feel like these additions will effectively complete the game. My current highest Wave I've survived to is 17, but that should be much easier to survive after these changes. For those that haven't figured it out, the game exponentially spawns more enemies based on the Wave #, and gives them more health after every boss round. Therefore there will come a time where the amount of enemies and the HP they have is way too great for your to survive, and I'd rather that be later than sooner in order to give you ample time to work out a strategy.
