(Best played standalone, but webgl provided for convenience.)

Before We Fall was made in 9 days for Do you WANNA Jam?! 2026, built around the theme of Unstable.

Your party is trapped inside a dungeon that is rapidly collapsing. To survive, you must fight your way to the Dungeon Heart before time runs out. However, every battle and every step costs precious time, making threat assessment and time management just as important as combat.

Along the way, mysterious shrines offer dangerous bargains, allowing you to trade away some of the dungeon's instability in exchange for powerful benefits. Push your luck, build your party, and make it to the heart before everything falls apart.

How To Play

I ran out of time for a tutorial, so here it is!

Before We Fall is an auto battler, so your choices are about the big picture, not individual attacks. Select the room you want your party to travel to, then let them handle the fighting.

Use the minimap to plan a route through the dungeon. Your goal is to reach the Dungeon Heart before instability reaches 100% and the dungeon collapses.

Shrines offer either Pact Bargaining Points or Relics. The map in the top left shows your currently available Pact options, but Pacts can only be selected between dungeon floors.

Campfires heal your party.

Your party can have anywhere from 1 to 6 members. If a party member's card has an icon behind it, such as fire, that character deals that type of damage and will usually apply a related ailment. A fire character, for example, will typically inflict Burning.

While the dungeon is waiting for you to choose your next room, you can drag your party cards to rearrange your formation. Put injured or vulnerable characters toward the back to help keep them alive.

You can also change each party member's combat stance, choosing whether they fight recklessly, take a more balanced approach, or prioritize survival and retreat when they are in danger.

Finally, the only purpose of gold (currently)  is to serve as a number for a Relic. So there's no need to go looking for a shops to spend it at, they don't exist!

Known Issues

  • Rare Soft Lock: Occasionally, the game may not give you choices in instances where it should (relic rooms, party member vengeance, etc). If this happens, click SEED in the top right to copy the seed, then post it along with a screenshot of where you got stuck. This will help me track down the issue.
  • Disappearing Shrines: Sometimes one, or both, shrines in a dungeon will disappear after you clear the first room of the floor.

System Specs

CPU matters more than GPU, but here's a quick guideline that should get the game playable at 1080p 60 FPS:

  • A 4 Core / 8 Thread CPU made within the last 10 years
  • A GPU with at least 256 MB of VRAM that supports Vulkan (and isn't Intel UHD graphics)
  • 4 GB of system RAM if using Linux, or 8 GB for Windows
